Army National Guard Capt. Michael "Todd" Fiscus, 36, Milford, Indiana.

Died Saturday, March 26, 2005, in Afghanistan, about 30 miles south of Kabul, with three other National Guard soldiers, when a land mine detonated beneath their vehicle as they were scouting a location for a shooting range.
Sixteen years ago he originally joined the Indiana Air National Guard but later switched to the Army National Guard. Outside of missions to Bosnis and Afghanistan, he flew charter planes.
His father, Mike Fiscus, said his son, who joined the military more out of a sense of duty than family tradition, was ready for Afghanistan. "He was looking forward to doing the job," said Mike, 61, who lives in Plainfield. "He's highly respected by his men and his superiors."
