U.S. Army Pfc Shawn D. Hensel, 20, Logansport, Indiana.
Killed August 14, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom when caught in a crossfire. According to initial reports, he died of injuries sustained when he received rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire. The Department of Defense has not released other information about his death.
He left for Iraq in early April after being stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash. He was assigned to B Company, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division.
He attended Logansport High School and earned a general education development certificate before joining the Army. He was married last December. His wife and parent reside in Logansport. The last time his parents saw their son was in June 2006, when he was home on a 10-day leave.
