Army Staff Sgt. David L. Loyd, 44, of Jackson, Tennessee (formerly of Terre Haute, Indiana)
Loyd was on a mission when he experienced severe chest pains. He was sent to the Kuwait hospital where he was pronounced dead. Loyd was assigned to the 1175th Transportation Company, Army National Guard, Brownsville, Tennessee, but grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana. Died on August 5, 2003. Loyd was called up for deployment to the Middle East in February 2003 but returned home when his Jackson, Tenn., home was damaged by a tornado.
However, he was eager to return to serving his country in Kuwait, his wife, Pamela, said. "He wouldn't have had it any other way."
A member of the Tennessee National Guard, the 44-year-old Loyd died of a heart attack in Kuwait. He also is survived by two sons.
Family members say Loyd enjoyed working as a truck mechanic and spent his spare time riding his Harley-Davidson.
"But most of all, he loved serving his country," said his mother-in-law, Bonnie Flinn, of Terre Haute, where both of the Loyds grew up.
