Army Corporal Sascha Struble, 20, of Philadelphia, N.Y. (family from Hanna, Indiana in LaPorte County).
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry Regiment, Camp Ederle, Italy, and was serving in Afghanistan. Killed with 17 others in a helicopter crash in Ghazni, Afghanistan on April 10, 2005. Military officials said he was aboard the CH-47 Chinook helicopter when it crashed during a sand storm about 80 miles south of Kabul while returning to Bagram from a mission to deliver mail and supplies and transport personnel in the insurgency-plagued south, .
Struble's father, Michael J., is a resident of Hanna, Ind., in southwest LaPorte County.
Officials reported no sign of enemy fire and suggested bad visibility and strong winds may have caused a fatal pilot error or technical problem.
