Army Sgt. Tristan M. Wade, 23, Southport, Indiana.
Killed Friday, March 22, 2013 in the Qarah Bagh District, Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 573rd Clearance Company, 2nd Engineer Battalion, White Sands Missile Range, N.M.
Wade, who graduated from Southport High School in 2009, was the first casualty of the Global War since Governor Mike Pence took office. The governor issued a statement on Monday, March 25th saying that he was saddened to learn of Wade's death and extended his sympathies and those of first lady Karen Pence to Wade's family and friends.
Pence said Wade "is a Hoosier hero who selflessly put on the uniform to defend freedom both here at home and abroad in Afghanistan."
